Dear Give Children Hope Sponsors and Friends,

As you may know, the Philippines is a Catholic country, and this week we are celebrating the Lenten season. Schools will be closed from April 5 through April 10, and we are glad for this short vacation. Also, since the pandemic, the opening of the school year has been moved from June to August, making the summer vacation July-August instead of April-May. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of reported cases of heatstroke among students. Public schools don’t have air-conditioned rooms, and the 35+ degree temperature makes it even more uncomfortable for everyone. Even just the walk to school in the afternoon is really hard to bear, so politicians are urging the education sector to review the school schedule and consider bringing back the April-May summer break when students are just resting at home or somewhere vacationing and don’t need to brave the hot temperature outside and at school everyday. We are still waiting for the final decision.

Nonetheless, we are all grateful for being in school, enjoying being with friends, and having the daily school feeding. Thank you for the hot meals every day. And on behalf of the students, Althea would like to express her gratitude for your generosity.

“A million thanks to Give Children Hope USA and to Don Cooper and family for your unending generosity to Dugcal Elementary School.” – Althea S. Oroy

We hope that you will have a wonderful week.

For the sponsored children,
